The Wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, has advised against child marriage, saying it has negative effects on the socio-economic development of the society.
Mrs. Abiodun who stated this while hosting members of Family Health Initiative, a Non-Government Organization (NGO), at Iperu, frowned at early pregnancy, saying, it had kept most girls out of schools, thereby making them vulnerable to societal menace of various forms.
Expressing her interest in ante-natal care to reduce maternal mortality during child birth, she noted that it was imperative to place high premium on the health of families in the State, as government would no longer watch children and women die of avoidable health conditions.
The Wife of the Governor assured the NGO of government’s support, urging it to partner with the present administration towards promoting health delivery services.
The Secretary of the group, Reverend Olajide Odugbemi, enjoined government to prioritize provision of consumables in primary health care centres, adding that this would further make health care delivery more affordable.
Speaking earlier, a member of the organization, Dr. Bunmi Ojelade, described family planning as an effective intervention that could help reduce both child and maternal mortality, calling on government to put in place, a veritable feedback mechanism for a sustainable healthcare delivery in the State.
Meanwhile, in recognition of her role in moulding the characters of young women and girl-child for positive adulthood and good moral development, the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, has been decorated as the State Patron of the Nigerian Girls Guide Association, Ogun State Chapter.
According to the Association, the investiture which took place at her Iperu residence, is automatic for every Wife of the State Governor on assumption of office.
